A 90-minute onsite consultation where we'll walk through your property and identify opportunities to improve biodiversity and create meaningful wildlife habitat.

✅ Full property, habitat & weed assessment

This isn’t a generic garden consult or a quick walkthrough. It’s a focused working session that turns your property into a clear step by step plan - what to plant, where to plant it and the costly mistakes to avoid that set most gardens back years.

The Outcome

This is what changes for you, not just what’s in the report.

By the end of the consultation you'll have:

  • Know exactly what to do next - no more guessing, no more wasted money on the wrong plants

  • Walk your garden and and actually see the vision, instead of just seeing space

  • Feel confident at the nursery, because you know exactly what belongs in your soil, your light, your microclimate

  • Understand how your choices bring back birds, bees and butterflies - not just how they look

  • Have a plan built for your budget and lifestyle, not a one size fits all list

Most clients say that the biggest value is finally walking away knowing exactly what to do next, with confidence.

Why Trust Me With Your Garden?

My approach to habitat gardening isn't based on trends. It's built on years of practical experience restoring vegetation, managing natural areas and working with indigenous plants.

Where It Started

My career began with a three-year apprenticeship and Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management at one of Australia's leading golf courses.

A major part of my work involved restoring indigenous vegetation throughout the course, with a strong focus on planting, revegetation and improving natural areas.

From the Course to Bushland

I later moved into roles with local councils and private organisations, working as a park ranger and horticulturalist.

Over several years, I worked across parks, reserves and natural areas, helping maintain and restore bushland using indigenous vegetation and practical land management techniques.

Why I Started Hartley's Gardens

I started Hartley's Gardens to bring that experience into people's own backyards.

My goal is to help homeowners create practical, low-maintenance gardens that support local wildlife, without turning their property into an unmanageable jungle.

It's about taking the principles used in habitat restoration and adapting them to real suburban gardens.

Common Questions

Do I need a big garden?
- No, any size is fine, from a small suburban block to acreage

Do you service my area?
- We service the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the Mornington peninsula.

What happens after I book?
- We’ll send you a quick questionnaire and schedule your visit

What if it rains on the day of my consultation?
- No problem, we’ll simply reschedule for the next available day. No fees, no fuss.

Do I need to buy plants through you?
- Not at all, your action plan is to use however you like. Many clients source plants themselves from local indigenous nurseries. If you’d like help with planting or installation, just ask and we can talk through options.

How long until I receive my action plan?
- You’ll walk away from the consultation with a clear verbal plan on the day, and your written summary and action plan will follow by email within 3 - 5 business days.

What if my garden is really overgrown or complex?
- That’s exactly what this service is for. Overgrown, neglected or complicated sites often benefit the most. We’ll help see what’s worth keeping, what needs to go and where to start.

Is $350 the total cost or are there extra fees?
- $350 covers the full consultation and your personalised action plan, no hidden costs. Any future services (like planting support) are always quoted separately and only if you want them.

What should I do to prepare for the visit?
- Nothing required! Just be ready to walk the property with us. If you have any specific goals or problem areas in mind, jot them down beforehand so we can be sure to cover them.
